History
Cleo Sol, born Cleopatra Zvezdana Nikolic in 1990 in Ladbroke Grove, London, is an English singer-songwriter working in British soul and alternative R&B. Her mother is Serbian-Spanish and her father Jamaican, and she grew up on reggae, Motown, jazz and Latin music, later citing Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott as influences. She first appeared on record in 2008, featured on Tinie Tempah's "Tears," then signed to DaVinChe's Dirty Canvas label and Island Records in 2011 before taking a five-year hiatus from 2012 to 2017. She returned with the EP Winter Songs (2018) and built a catalog of studio albums: Rose in the Dark (2020), Mother (2021), and the surprise pair Heaven and Gold (2023). She is also lead vocalist of the secretive UK collective Sault, working closely with her husband, producer Inflo. Rose in the Dark landed on Complex's and Clash's best-of-2020 lists, and both Sol and Sault are known for almost never performing live or giving interviews.
