History
Chappell Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz in 1998 in Willard, Missouri, is an American pop and rock singer-songwriter known for a camp, drag-queen-influenced stage persona. She uploaded her first original song under her own name in 2014, signed to Atlantic Records in 2015, and adopted the stage name Chappell Roan in 2016 in tribute to her late grandfather Dennis K. Chappell. After Atlantic dropped her in 2020, she kept working with producer Dan Nigro and self-released "Pink Pony Club," which later became a UK number-one hit. Signed to Amusement/Island Records in 2023, she released her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which turned into a slow-building sleeper hit and eventually reached number two on the Billboard 200. Its single "Good Luck, Babe!" hit number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts internationally, while "Hot to Go!" went multi-platinum. In 2025 she won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and scored a second UK number-one single with "The Subway."
