History
Carly Rae Jepsen was born November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. After studying musical theatre through school and university, she placed third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol in 2007, which launched her career. Her folk-influenced debut album, Tug of War, followed in 2008. In 2012 the single "Call Me Maybe" became a global phenomenon, declared that year's best-selling single, selling over 18 million copies and hitting number one in more than 19 countries, which won her deals with Schoolboy Records and Interscope. Her second album, Kiss (2012), included the duet "Good Time" with Owl City. She later shifted toward 1980s-inspired synth-pop and dance-pop with Emotion (2015), featuring "I Really Like You" and "Run Away with Me" - an album that, despite modest initial sales, became a widely praised cult favorite among critics and pop fans. She also played the title role in Broadway's Cinderella in 2014 and appeared in Grease: Live in 2016.
