Cap'n Jazz
Mid-1990s chaotic midwest emo from the 1990s: twinkly clean arpeggios, spastic stop-start drums, blown-out trumpet lines, raw and playful in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History
Cap'n Jazz sounded like a band falling down a staircase on purpose: yelped, cracking vocals, frantic drums and guitars that spiral in knotted, almost jazzy figures. The group formed in the Chicago suburbs around 1989 while its members were still teenagers, and its core included brothers Tim and Mike Kinsella. They released only one proper album, known as Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over, in 1995, and broke up soon after. Their reach grew mostly after the fact. In 1998 Jade Tree issued Analphabetapolothology, a compilation gathering their recordings, including a manic cover of a-ha's Take On Me. Former members went on to Joan of Arc, The Promise Ring, American Football and Owls, which made Cap'n Jazz a root of the whole Midwest emo family tree. A listener recognises them by the unhinged energy, the vocal that breaks on purpose and twinkly guitar lines played as if the song might collapse.
