History
Brent Faiyaz, born Christopher Brent Wood on September 19, 1995, in Columbia, Maryland, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer working in R&B, alternative R&B, and the DMV hip-hop scene. He began releasing music independently in 2013 with the EP "Sunset Ave," then built a following on SoundCloud after relocating to Los Angeles. His breakthrough came in 2016 with a guest verse on GoldLink's "Crew" alongside Shy Glizzy; the track went RIAA octuple platinum and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance. That same year he co-founded the R&B trio Sonder. His debut solo album, "Sonder Son," followed in 2017, and 2022's "Wasteland" peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, driven by singles "Gravity" (with Tyler, the Creator), "Wasting Time" (with Drake), and the TikTok-viral "Dead Man Walking." In 2023 he founded the independent label ISO Supremacy, which signed fellow DMV artist Tommy Richman, and has since earned BET Award nominations for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
