History
Bravo is a Russian rock and roll band formed in Moscow in 1983 by guitarist Evgeny Khavtan. Drawing on 1950s American rock and roll, rockabilly, and swing, the band was part of the Soviet rock and roll revival of the 1980s alongside Secret, and made its first recordings that same year. Original singer Zhanna Aguzarova, known for her flamboyant retro image, fronted the group until her departure in 1988; Bravo continued with a series of vocalists, including Valeriy Syutkin (1990-1994) and Robert Lenz (since 1996), while Khavtan has remained its constant leader and songwriter throughout. In 1994 Bravo won the first-ever MTV Europe Music Award for Best Russian Act. After a decade away from the studio, the band returned in 2011 with the acclaimed album Fashion (Мода), recorded on vintage 1950s-60s instruments and featuring a cover photo of Audrey Hepburn from Roman Holiday. Bravo remains active today, marking more than four decades on stage.
