History
Blestyashchie ("Shiny" or "Brilliant") is a Russian all-female pop group formed in Moscow in March 1995 by composer-producer Andrei Grozny together with Andrei Shlykov. The original trio, Olga Orlova, Polina Iodis and Varvara Koroleva, released the debut single and album "Tam, Tolko Tam" in 1997. Koroleva soon left and was replaced by Zhanna Friske and Irina Lukyanova, the line-up that carried the group's breakthrough. Through the late 1990s and 2000s the roster changed repeatedly; the group is reported to have gone through eight distinct line-ups over more than two decades, with singers including Anna Semenovich, Yulia Kovalchuk and long-serving member Ksenia Novikova passing through. Musically the group stuck to upbeat Russian dance-pop, scoring hits such as "Vostochnye Skazki", "Apelsinovaya Pesnya", "A Ya Vsyo Letala" and "Za 4 Morya", and picking up major domestic honors including "Song of the Year" and the "Golden Gramophone". A genuine trivia highlight: at the 2007 MTV Russia Music Awards, former and current members reunited on one stage. Several alumnae, most notably Zhanna Friske, went on to notable solo careers.
