History
Belinda Carlisle (born Belinda Jo Carlisle, August 17, 1958, in Los Angeles) rose from the late-1970s Hollywood punk scene, briefly drumming for the Germs before co-founding the Go-Go's in 1978 as lead singer. Blending 1960s-flavored power pop with new wave energy, the Go-Go's became the first all-female band to write and perform their own songs to top the US album chart, with 1981's "Beauty and the Beat" and hits like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." After the band split in 1985, Carlisle launched a solo career, scoring a US and UK No. 1 with "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" (1987), plus hits "Mad About You," "I Get Weak," and "Leave a Light On." She reunited with the Go-Go's for tours and new recordings over the following decades, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Her 2010 memoir "Lips Unsealed" became a New York Times bestseller.
