History
Bedouin make slow, hypnotic house that leans on Middle Eastern melody and warm, organic textures. The duo is Tamer Malki, who comes from Jordan, and Rami Abousabe, born in New Jersey to Egyptian parents, and their music draws openly on that mix of heritage, Western upbringing and years of travel. Their tracks move at an unhurried pace, built on hand percussion, deep rolling bass, plucked strings, desert-toned scales and chanted or half-whispered vocals, the kind of sound that later gathered under the name organic house. They released on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, All Day I Dream and their own Human by Default. In 2017 their take on Pink Floyd's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun came out on Crosstown Rebels,. They have recorded an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and played Burning Man, Coachella and Tomorrowland. A listener recognises them by long, patient builds, dusty percussion and melodies that sound like they were carried in from across the desert.
