History
Band'Eros arrived in Russian pop in the middle of the 2000s with a sound that had almost no local precedent: light Latin brass, lounge chords, half-spoken rap verses and a woman's voice on the chorus, all delivered with a straight face over lyrics that were clearly joking. "Kolambia Pikcherz ne predstavlyaet" was the breakthrough, a song whose title alone signalled that the group was not going to take the era's glamour seriously, and radio played it for years. "Manhetten" and "Pro krasivuyu zhizn" kept the same register, sunny arrangements describing money, travel and nightlife with an irony that pop of that period rarely allowed itself. Musically the group sat closer to European party pop than to the ballad-driven Russian mainstream, with acoustic guitar, horns and a loose swing in the drums. A listener recognises them by the contrast between the relaxed male verse and the bright, unhurried female hook.
