History
Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) is a Puerto Rican singer, rapper, and songwriter born March 10, 1994, in the Almirante Sur neighborhood of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. While studying audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo and working as a supermarket bagger, he built a following by posting original tracks on SoundCloud. His 2016 single "Soy Peor" marked his breakthrough, and collaborations with Drake and Cardi B on "Mia" and "I Like It" pushed him to international stardom. His sound, dubbed musica urbana, fuses reggaeton and Latin trap with rock, punk, soul, salsa, and Puerto Rican bomba, and he is widely credited as a driving force behind reggaeton's global crossover. He was Spotify's most-streamed artist worldwide from 2020 through 2022. His 2025 album Debi tirar mas fotos made history as the first Spanish-language record to win the Grammy for Album of the Year, and later that year he became the first Super Bowl halftime headliner to perform primarily in Spanish. His stage name comes from a childhood photo of him sulking in a bunny costume.
