History
Baby Rasta & Gringo belong to the combative first generation of Puerto Rican reggaeton, a duo known as much for their diss records as for their dancefloor hits. They came together in 1994 in Las Monjas, Hato Rey, first calling themselves the Eazy Boyz, and cut their teeth on DJ Negro's The Noise series, the underground tapes where much of early reggaeton took shape. They debuted properly in 1998 with New Prophecy, and the Romances Del Ruido albums that followed set their hard, chanted style over raw dembow. By the early 2000s they were famous for confrontational tracks aimed at Héctor & Tito, Wisin & Yandel, Don Omar and others. Internal conflict after their 2004 album Sentenciados led to a three-year split, and The Comeback in 2008 marked their return. Their later run brought a softer romantic side: Los Cotizados in 2015 included "Un Beso", which reached number one in several Latin American countries. Fans also call them Los Lobos, and they are recognised by two contrasting voices trading lines in quick, streetwise exchanges.
