History

AURORA sings in a light, breathy soprano and writes songs that sound like folk melodies handed to an electronic producer. She came out of Norway with a sound built on open fifths, hand percussion, choral stacks of her own voice and synth pads that swell instead of dropping, and the lyrics run to nature, animals and childhood imagery treated seriously rather than as decoration. Runaway, an early song, found a second and much larger life years later when it spread through short video, which is how most of her current audience arrived. Running with the Wolves shows the percussive, stomping side of her writing, and Cure for Me the brighter pop one, with a chorus that marches. On stage she moves in an unguarded, almost ritual way that matches the material. What a listener recognises is the voice at the top of its range, thin on purpose, sitting right at the front of a mix that leaves plenty of air around it.
