History
Armin van Buuren (born 25 December 1976 in Leiden, Netherlands) is a Dutch DJ, producer, and one of the defining figures of trance and progressive house music. He began playing at student club nights in Leiden in the mid-1990s while studying law at Leiden University, and scored an early chart hit with "Blue Fear" in 1997, drawing inspiration from electronic pioneers Jean-Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze. In 2001 he launched the weekly radio show A State of Trance, which grew into a global franchise broadcast on over 100 stations and streamed to tens of millions of listeners, cementing his role as trance's leading ambassador. In 2003 he co-founded the label Armada Music and released his debut studio album, 76. He has been voted the world's number one DJ by DJ Mag a record five times, including four consecutive years, a feat few artists in the genre have matched. He remains active, releasing new music into the mid-2020s.
