History
Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson, known simply as Anne-Marie, is an English pop singer-songwriter born 7 April 1991 in East Tilbury, Essex. As a child she performed in West End productions of Les Misérables and Whistle Down the Wind (the latter alongside a young Jessie J), and before turning to music she was a competitive shotokan karateka, winning double gold at the 2002 Funakoshi Shotokan World Championships, which earned her the nickname "singing ninja." She guested with Magnetic Man, Gorgon City and Rudimental before her 2015 EP Karate. Her breakthrough came as lead vocalist on Clean Bandit's "Rockabye" (with Sean Paul), which spent nine weeks at UK number one and was the 2016 Christmas number one, later winning an MTV Europe Music Award. Her 2018 debut album Speak Your Mind reached UK number three and earned four BRIT Award nominations. Further hits include "Friends" (with Marshmello) and "2002," a reworking of "Rewrite the Stars" she wrote at Ed Sheeran's urging.
