History
Anderson .Paak, born Brandon Paak Anderson on February 8, 1986, in Oxnard, California, to a Black father and a Korean mother, started out drumming in his church band before moving into bedroom production. After early records under the name Breezy Lovejoy, he adopted the Anderson .Paak name in 2013 and broke through with the 2014 album Venice, gaining wider attention after Dr. Dre featured him heavily on 2015's Compton. His 2016 album Malibu, blending rap, R&B, soul, and funk, earned his first Grammy nominations, and Oxnard (2018) brought a Grammy win for Best Rap Performance on 'Bubblin.' He also records as one half of the duo NxWorries with producer Knxwledge, and performs with his backing band Free Nationals. In 2021, he teamed with Bruno Mars as the retro-soul duo Silk Sonic; their song 'Leave the Door Open' swept four Grammys in 2022, including Record and Song of the Year.
