History
Amerie (born Amerie Mi Marie Rogers Nicholson, January 12, 1980, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and actress. Raised across South Korea, Germany, Texas, and Alaska due to her father's US military career, she is of Korean and African-American descent and later studied English and fine arts at Georgetown University. She debuted in 2002 with the gold-certified album All I Have and the hit single "Why Don't We Fall in Love." Her 2005 sophomore album Touch produced "1 Thing," a go-go-influenced track built on a Meters funk sample; it became her biggest hit, reaching the US and UK top ten and later featuring on the Hitch soundtrack and in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V. Her third album, Because I Love It (2007), drew praise from The Guardian but never received a US release. She moved to Def Jam for In Love & War (2009), then rebranded as "Ameriie" for later independent work, including the singles "What I Want" and "Mustang."
