History

Alan Braxe (born Alain Quême, 9 July 1971, Paris) is a pioneering figure of the French touch house scene. Trained on clarinet and cello, he began DJing in Paris in the late 1980s and produced early tracks with just a mixer, a compressor, and an Emu SP1200 sampler. His demos reached Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, who released Braxe's 1997 debut single "Vertigo" on his Roulé label. The following year Braxe, Bangalter, and singer Benjamin Diamond formed the one-off project Stardust for a Rex Club gig in Paris, built around a looped sample of Chaka Khan's "Fate." The resulting single, "Music Sounds Better with You" (1998), sold over three million copies and became one of the defining anthems of the French touch era, despite Stardust performing live only twice and never recording an album. Braxe went on to found the Vulture Music label, producing filter-disco tracks with Fred Falke, and later formed Braxe + Falcon with his cousin, DJ Falcon, releasing on Domino Records decades after their first solo Roulé singles.
