History

Adrian Lux made Swedish progressive house that leaned toward melancholy pop: big rolling chords, a clean four-on-the-floor pulse and vocals that sound closer to an indie band than to a club diva. He came out of the same Stockholm wave that produced Avicii and the Swedish House Mafia circle, and his breakthrough single Teenage Crime in 2010 became one of the anthems of that moment. Built on a wistful vocal and a piano-like riff that swells into a festival drop, it charted in Sweden and several other European countries and drew a remix from Axwell. Follow-ups such as Alive with The Good Natured and Boy with Rebecca & Fiona kept the same bittersweet mood, and his self-titled debut album arrived in 2012, stretching that formula across a full record of wistful vocals and slow-building drops. His tracks also turned up in FIFA football games, which spread them well beyond the clubs. The trademark is easy to hear: a sad-eyed pop song wrapped in the long builds and bright synth stabs of early 2010s Swedish house.
