History

Aborym fuse black metal with industrial electronics: blast beats locked to programmed rhythms, harsh noise textures and a cold, mechanical atmosphere closer to a factory than a forest. The project comes from southern Italy and has been led from the start by Malfeitor Fabban, who treated black metal as raw material to be cut up and rebuilt with samplers and drum machines. The Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar, known for his work with Mayhem, sang on Fire Walk with Us!, whose title nods to Twin Peaks, and his theatrical, unsettling voice became part of the band's reputation in the early 2000s. With No Human Intervention and Generator pushed further toward electronic density, with dance and techno rhythms bleeding into the metal. Aborym belong to the small group of acts that took black metal into industrial territory at the turn of the millennium, alongside Norwegian experimenters of the same period. A listener recognises them by distorted guitars fighting against pounding electronic beats, processed vocals, samples and a deliberately artificial, hostile production.
