History
999999999 make hard, acid-soaked techno built around the squelch of a 303-style bassline, pounding kicks and the raw urgency of 1990s rave. The Italian duo started the project in 2016 and has released most of its music on its own label, NineTimesNine, through a run of vinyl twelve-inches that were repressed again and again as demand grew. Their track 300000003, released in 2018, spread quickly through the techno scene and brought their take on acid techno to a much wider audience. In the studio they rely on analog hardware, with a 303 clone at the centre alongside a sampler-sequencer and an analog synth, and the same approach defines their live act: a hardware-only set that has carried them to large techno festivals such as Awakenings and to clubs including Fabric in London. They belong to the wave of producers who brought the speed and aggression of hard techno back to the main stages in the late 2010s and 2020s. The sound is unmistakable: acid lines that twist and resonate over relentless four-to-the-floor drums, with minimal decoration and maximum pressure.
