2010s amplified cello rock from the 2010s: distorted cello riff, percussive bow chops, cello harmonic squeals, aggressive and theatrical in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

2CELLOS took two classically trained cellos and played rock with them at full volume, and the joke only worked because the playing was serious. The Croatian duo broke through with a cello arrangement of Smooth Criminal posted online, where one instrument holds the bass riff while the other takes the vocal line, and the bow attack does the job a distorted guitar normally does. From there came a run of covers built the same way: Thunderstruck played with the aggression of a rock band and staged as costume comedy, Hurt played almost without ornament so that the melody carries alone. What separates them from novelty is technique. The percussive bowing, the string bends and the way they treat the cello body as a drum are proper extended technique, not effects. Hundreds of millions of video views followed, along with arena touring alongside Elton John, and a generation of string students discovered that the instrument has a register for aggression as well as for grief.
